When we decided to hit the road 5 years ago, we had no idea what was in store for us. Ken and I have learnt so much about our family of campers, made friends with people who are like minded and seen parts of the country that leave one breathless.
It has been a lesson in sharing and living in an open environment. The weather has played a major part in our decisions on where to be and when even though there is such a change in patterns. We have lived through the drought, gale force winds and flooding yet we have never been uncomfortable in our trusty Sprite Scenic.
In short, this is the lifestyle for us. We have kayaked on amazing rivers and dams, seen animals and birds that a lot of people will never see in a lifetime and enjoyed the companionship of so many friends. Every day is different and that is why we will never be able to live in a traditional retirement environment. So bring on the next 5 years.
In the mean time we will continue to enjoy our lives doing what we love and where possible, become involved in finding safe and affordable campsites to write about in Caravan and Outdoor Life. This has become a growing lifestyle with more people opting out of the traditional retirement village for the outdoors way and the camping industry is the better for it.
After all, any campsite owner welcomes (or should) couples who are mature, look after their place in the sun and is a regular source of income in the quiet season. So what are you waiting for?
